edward "ted" Dwyer





Edward H. Dwyer, “Ted”, was born in 1925. His parents were Edward E. and Lora H. Dwyer of Mahopac, N.Y. Ted attended school in Mahopac and graduated from Mahopac High School in 1943. He served in the Navy Air Corps during World War II as a naval cadet in its V-5 program.

After the war, Ted attended Syracuse University. He became a reporter for Dun & Bradstreet in Syracuse and then became manager of its Utica Office.

In 1961, Ted returned to Mahopac to become associated with Leslie P. Dodge in the insurance and real estate business on Route 6. Mr. Dwyer acquired ownership in 1970 and continues today as proprietor of the Dwyer Agency.

He is a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church where he was baptized and received his First Communion (on Saturdays he attended “Sunday School” which was held in the basement of the old church. The pastor at that time personally transported the nuns from St. Joseph’s in Peekskill to Mahopac to teach religious instruction.)

Ted is a charter member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and is a past President. He is also a past President of Putnam Hospital Center, Lake Mahopac Rotary Club, Independent Insurance Agents of Putnam County, Putnam County Association of Realtors, and was a 27 year former Board Member of First Federal Savings & Loan Association of Peekskill.

In 1952, he married Diana Buchanan of Peekskill. They have four children: Ted Jr. (deceased), Kevin (a current Friendly Sons member and past president), Jonathan Dwyer, and Amy Carlin. He has ten grandchildren.

Ted’s father and mother were born in the United States. His grandfather and grandmother, Dennis and Johanna (Heffernan) Dwyer, were born in the United States. The Dwyer ancestors emigrated from County Tipperary in Ireland and settled on farms in the Syracuse-Pompey area in New York State
